ISYE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
Date: Spring 2016
Networking with upperclassmen and involvement in the ISYE department are very important for incoming Georgia Tech students. Currently, our department does not have a mentoring program at all. The goals of this semester were to set up an effective program and recruit mentors that would be willing to participate and gain leadership experience through mentoring. Through teaming with Institute of Industrial Engineers, we kicked off the program by sending out an application to interested mentors. Mentee registration will begin this summer with the incoming freshman class, and the program will officially kick off this fall.
Rising Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors can apply to be in the program, and then if they have the qualifications, they are accepted as mentors. Through advertising in freshman programs we get a basis of freshman mentees that needs to be matched,. We are matching mentors and mentees on topics of research interest in the field of Industrial & Systems, opportunity (such as internships, co-ops, study-abroads) interest and general club & organization involvement and interest. The goals through matching are to match each mentee with a mentor that can assist in finding opportunities and promoting any ambitions both academically and socially that the mentee may have.
At the end of each semester, the mentors will be evaluated for their involvement. Communication will be encouraged through providing monthly mentorship sponsored lunches & an awards banquet at the end of the year.
